2007 NFL Mock Draft by Conor Dowley

From Conor Dowley

17. Jacksonville Jaguars - Reggie Nelson, S Florida
With Deon Grant likely to leave via free agency, the Jags need a new helper in the secondary. Nelson is a natural-born playmaker, and would help make an already-formidable defense all the more of a terror for quarterbacks.

18. Cincinnati Bengals - Michael Griffin, S Texas
With news coming that starting safety Madieu Williams is sliding down to corner next season, a starting spot is getting freed up. Griffin is a talented kid, and could really give a boost to the Bengals' secondary.

19. Tennessee Titans - LaMarr Woodley, DE Michigan
The Titans' recent experiments at DE have pretty much utterly failed, and it's time for some new blood. Woodley is a persistant and willing pass-rusher, and should work well opposite Kyle Vanden Bosch.

20. New York Giants - Marshawn Lynch, RB California
The Giants are in need of a back to go along with Brandon Jacobs, and Lynch would fill that role very, very well. Normally speaking, it's doubtful he'd make it this far down, but recently revealed charges against him will inevitably send his stock a-tumbling.

21. Denver Broncos - Marcus McCauley, CB Fresno State
The recent tragic death of Darrent Williams opened up a huge hole in the Broncos secondary, one they weren't ready to have opened. McCauley's a good player, and his skills fit the Broncos' defensive schemes very well.

22. Dallas Cowboys - Justin Blalock, OG Texas
The Cowboys are old and wearing down at guard, and it's time for a bit more fresh blood there. Plus, the Longhorns' blocking schemes are very similar to the ones that the Cowboys use, so the transition will be easy for him there.

23. Kansas City Chiefs - Ted Ginn Jr, WR Ohio State
The Chiefs' offense needs a huge influx of young talent, especially at receiver. Ginn is an electric playmaker, and would really give their passing game a boost.

24. New England Patriots (from Seattle) - Paul Posluzny, LB Penn State
The Pats need youth at linebacker, especially with Tedy Bruschi thinking about retirement. Posluzny brings them that youth, as well as a high level of intensity and leadership.

25. New York Jets - DeMarcus Tyler, DT NC State
Tyler is the big, run-stuffing DT to control the middle of the line of scrimmage that the Jets lacked last season. Tyler's a big workhorse, and would really help shore up the middle of their defense.

26. Philadelphia Eagles - Zach Miller, TE Arizona State
With it seeming almost guaranteed that the Eagles won't retain TE L.J. Smith, the Eagles are going to need a new starting TE. Miller is a guy who brings a fairly complete game to the table, and would help to boost their offense.

27. New Orleans Saints - Levi Brown, OT Penn State
The Saints need some help all across the offensive line, and Brown is the best left on the board.

28. New England Patriots - Sidney Rice, WR South Carolina
A tall, fast, and physical receiver that would give Tom Brady an excellent downfield target like he didn't have at all last season.

29. Baltimore Ravens - Lawrence Timmons, LB Florida State
With Adalius Thomas about to hit a huge payday on the free agency market and the Ravens not looking like they'll have the salary cap to splurge on him, the Ravens need a new presence at linebacker to replace him. Timmons can positively fly from sideline to sideline and has a nose for the ball.

30. San Diego Chargers - Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU
The Chargers are in desperate need for a leading-type receiver, and Bowe could be it. Big and physical, Bowe has shown the ability to take over a football game with his hands.

31. Chicago Bears - Arron Sears, OT/OG Tennessee
Sears is a great player for the Bears, as he could play either guard or right tackle, both of their big impending needs along the offensive line.

32. Indianapolis Colts - Victor Abiamiri, DE Notre Dame
With Dwight Freeney becoming a free agent, it will take a minor miracle for the Colts to retain him without further slaughtering their salary cap for the next few seasons. Thus, the Colts will very likely be needing a replacement, and Abiamiri looks to be a solid, solid defensive player.
