Quarterback Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts finally found some playoff success following the 2003 season. They started off by routing the Denver Broncos at home, 41-10, behind a nearly flawless performance by Manning. His 22-for-26 outing produced 377 yards and five touchdowns through the air, earning the All Pro quarterback another perfect passer rating.

The following week, the Colts traveled to Kansas City to face the Chiefs in Arrowhead stadium and survived a hostile crowd behind yet another outstanding effort by Manning. This time he went 22-of-30 for 304 yards and three touchdowns. And for the second week in a row, he was interception free.

The Colts were less fortunate during the AFC championship game, and a new nemisis for both the Colts and Manning was born as the New England Patriots ended what looked to be a sure Super Bowl run, 24-14. The Patriots took Manning out of his comfort zone right from the opening whistle, holding him to just 237 yards passing, but more importantly, they forced him into four uncharacteristic interceptions.

Once again many questioned Manning's ability to win it all.
