It's hard to believe now, but as the 1998 NFL Draft approached, there was actually a lot of debate as to whether Peyton Manning or Washington State's Ryan Leaf was the best quarterback prospect. Of course, Leaf turned out to be one of, if not the most prolific busts in NFL history while Manning went on to NFL glory.
When draft day came around on April 18, the Indianapolis Colts made the wise selection of Manning with the first overall pick, leaving Leaf on the board for the unsuspecting San Diego Chargers to draft, and effectively handicap their organization for years to come.
