Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning began to turn things around near the mid point of his rookie season, but he continued to throw interceptions nearly as frequently as he did touchdowns. He did have a bit of a break-out performance, however, in an Oct. 18 loss to the San Francisco 49ers (pictured above) in which he completed 18-of-30 passes for 231 yards with three touchdown passes and no interceptions.

On the season Manning put together four three-touchdown games, and consistently showed flashes of what was to come. He finished his rookie season with 3,739 yards passing with 26 touchdowns and 28 interceptions; more than solid numbers for a first-year player even with the high INT total.

Manning was certainly a bright spot in 1998 for the Colts, but the team still limped to a 3-13 record thanks mostly to a defense that surrendered more than 27 points per game.
