Built like a linebacker, Mays is in fantastic shape with a chiseled physique. He's very durable and plays through pain which has led to him not missing a game since taking over as the starter as a freshman.
On the downside, he does struggle with his fundamentals, takes bad angles at times, and doesn't have the most fluid hips. He also has a habit of going for the knockout punch at times instead of wrapping up his opponent. He hasn't created as many impact plays as scouts would like out of top-rated prospect like Mays, but some of that can be blamed on the way he played so far off the line at USC.
Mays could probably play either safety position or cornerback in the NFL.
