JaMarcus Russell

From Conor Dowley

Positional Rankings: QB RB FB WR TE OT OG C - DE DT ILB OLB S CB - K P

Position: Quarterback

School: LSU

Status: Junior

Height: 6-6

Weight: 260

40-Yard Dash: 4.85 (EST)

Positives:
With his huge size and purely gifted athleticism, Russell is a rare specimen at QB. He's bigger than most of the linebackers who will be blitzing him, and will be bigger than even some of the defensive ends trying to bring him down. Add that to the fact that he has a huge arm with good touch and that he plays faster than his timed speed (a rarity these days among QBs), and Russell is an exceptional prospect.
Negatives:
The biggest problem with Russell is that it seems at times as though he leaves his head at home and looks totally lost in some games. He tries to rely on his arm too much and will force a lot of balls into spots he shouldn't, which will probably create problems at the NFL level.
Overview:
The best QB prospect next to Brady Quinn, although he is a touch raw. If he lands on a team with good offensive and quarterback coaching... look out. Should be a top ten pick, if not top five, and is a lock for the top half of the first round at a minimum.
