Sidney Rice

By James Alder, About.com

Positional Rankings: QB RB FB WR TE OT OG C - DE DT ILB OLB S CB - K P

Position: Wide Receiver

School: South Carolina

Status: Sophomore

Height: 6-3

Weight: 200

40-Yard Dash: 4.50 (EST)

Positives:

Sidney Rice is a lanky receiver with very good hands and decent speed. He displays solid ball skills, and adjusts nicely to the ball while it's in the air. He also shows nice field awareness, and does a good job of battling defenders for jump balls.

Although he does not break a lot of tackles, Rice does do a good job of picking up yards after the catch by finding seams in the defense. He's also an adequate downfield blocker.

Negatives:

Rice is a raw prospect who needs to pay a little more attention to detail and learn to run sharper routes. His thin frame also makes him a target for durability concerns, although he has never suffered a major injury. He will probably be asked to bulk up a little at the pro level.

Overview:

Although he lacks elite speed, Sidney Rice should be able to make an early impact in the NFL as a deep threat. He has deceptive speed to get behind defenders, and is very good at catching the ball over his shoulder. He should be selected late in the first round or early in the second.
