Baltimore Ravens 2008 NFL Draft

Draft Needs of the Baltimore Ravens

From Andrew Wynne and James Alder, for About.com

Mar 11 2008

Cornerback — Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle are both very good starting cornerbacks but turn 31 and 32 respectively this year. Both were sidelined with injuries in 2007 as well. No other corner on the roster is worthy of starting... ever. A future franchise shutdown corner needs to be drafted to play nickel as a rookie and to be groomed as a future No. 1 corner. Another corner needs to be drafted to play dime as a rookie and to be groomed as a future No. 2.

Quarterback — Unless the new coaching staff is sold on either Kyle Boller or Troy Smith as having the potential to lead this team to the Super Bowl, they may pull trigger on another potential franchise quarterback. If the Ravens choose not to spend a first-day pick on a quarterback, they could spend a second-day pick on a developmental prospect.

Middle Linebacker — Ray Lewis has been an institution for the Ravens at middle linebacker. However, they will probably draft a young middle linebacker to play as his backup and to be groomed as his successor.

Defensive End — A powerful 3-4 defensive end is needed to backup Haloti Ngata, Trevor Pryce, and Dwan Edwards.

Offensive Tackle — A fourth offensive tackle to go with Adam Terry, Jared Gaither, and Marshal Yanda is needed due to the expected retirement of future hall-of-famer Jonathan Ogden.

Nose Tackle — A powerful, compact, pocket-collapsing, run-stuffing nose tackle is needed to backup Kelly Gregg.

Outside Linebacker - A young linebacker give Jarrett Johnson competition would be good.

Offensive Guard/Center — The Ravens should use a mid-to-late-round pick on some depth for the interior line.
