Jacksonville Jaguars 2008 NFL Draft Needs

Draft Needs of the Jacksonville Jaguars

From Andrew Wynne and James Alder, for About.com

Mar 13 2008

Defensive End - Reggie Hayward isn't much of a pass-rushing threat on the right side. A young pass-rushing defensive end who can contribute immediately on passing downs is needed to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Strong Safety - The Jaguars strengthened the free safety position by drafting Reggie Nelson in the first round last year. However, a replacement at strong safety for Sammy Knight, who signed with the New York Giants, is needed.

Blocking Tight End — The Jaguars need a tight end who is physical, can run block, and can pick up tough yards to compliment their pass-catching tight ends.

Cornerback - Rasheen Mathis is fantastic, but Brian Williams has been a disappointment since coming over from the Vikings two years ago. A young corner to backup and compete with Brian Williams and Drayton Florence should be drafted.

Offensive Lineman - A versatile offensive lineman should be picked up in the mid-to-late rounds for added depth.

Quarterback - A third-string, developmental prospect should be picked up in the later rounds of the draft.

Wide Receiver — The Jaguars have Jerry Porter, Troy Williamson, Dennis Northcutt, Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, John Broussard, Mike Walker, and D’Juan Woods as their current receiving corps. They may, however, still consider drafting another receiver in the late rounds for competition.
