Miami Dolphins 2008 NFL Draft

Draft Needs of the Miami Dolphins

From Andrew Wynne and James Alder, for About.com

Mar 13 2008

Cornerback — The Dolphins do not have anyone on their roster who can be considered a number one cornerback and they lack depth at the position. If they don't bring in some help via free agency, they could use multiple picks on the position.

Offensive Tackle — Having released L. J. Shelton, the Dolphins need an offensive tackle to start opposite of Vernon Carey.

Strong Safety — The Dolphins need a head-hunting safety who can also cover to put fear into opposing wideouts and tight ends as they go deep. Someone to pair with free safety Jason Allen.

Wide Receiver — A franchise wide receiver to go with the field-stretching Ted Ginn and the possession red-zone Ernest Wilford would help out the starting quarterback.

Quarterback - Obviously this position depends on Bill Parcells' opinion of John Beck and Josh McCown. If he feels Beck is the QB of the future, then they'll just need to add someone to offer competition for the backup role.

Strongside Linebacker — Jason Taylor and Jerry Porter should make a good pair rushing the passer this year, but a youngster needs to be groomed behind the tandem.

Middle Linebacker — Zach Thomas is now with the Dallas Cowboys. The Dolphins may elect to draft a large 3-4 type inside linebacker.

Defensive End — Another 3-4 defensive end opposite Randy Starks should be drafted. Virginia's Chris Long could, in fact, be their No. 1 overall selection and would be a tremendous fit having excelled as a 3-4 defensive end in college.
