New Orleans Saints 2008 NFL Draft

Draft Needs of the New Orleans Saints

From Andrew Wynne, for About.com

Jan 10 2008

Cornerback – The New Orleans Saints situation at corner is so bad that Kevin Kaesviharn, who should be starting at free safety, was starting at corner. Mike McKenzie is a starting caliber corner. Usama Young may have future potential, but Jason David appears to be a free agent disappointment. Jason Craft and Fred Thomas also have not performed well.

Middle Linebacker – The Saints also need a middle linebacker around whom they can build a defense.

Nose Tackle – A powerful run-stuffing huge defensive tackle who can collapse the pocket is needed to be groomed to replace Hollis Thomas, who is 33 years old.

Defensive Tackle – A quick powerful defensive tackle who can rush the passer and defend the run is needed to replace Brian Young who is 30 years old.

Cornerback – A second corner to play the dime is needed to go with Mike McKenzie, the other CB to be acquired, and Usama Young.

Return Specialist – A game-changing punt returner is needed.

Outside Linebacker – An outside linebacker to back up Scott Fujita and Scott Shanle.
