What was the Buccaneers’ best move during the offseason?
At the time, it wasn’t a blockbuster signing, but bringing in free agent center Jeff Faine should really solidify what looks like an up-and-coming offensive line. With guards Davin Joseph and Arron Sears gaining valuable experience last year, along with the continued development of tackle Jeremy Trueblood, this group could take a big step forward this year

What needs to go right for the Buccaneers to succeed this season?
The Bucs are counting on some aging veterans to continue playing key roles at a high level. If the performances of guys like quarterback Jeff Garcia (38), receiver Joey Galloway (36), linebacker Derrick Brooks (35), and cornerback Ronde Barber (33) start to decline, it could be a long season for Tampa Bay. Keeping these guys healthy and productive will be a big key to their success.

Also, the team didn’t do a whole lot during the offseason to improve a receiving corps, which features Galloway and a bunch of also-rans. So they need a guy like Michael Clayton or Maurice Stovall to step up as a solid No. 2. They did spend a second-round draft pick on the explosive Dexter Jackson out of Appalachian State, but his best chance of making a contribution as a rookie is as a return man.

Where will the Buccaneers finish the 2008 NFL season?
It looks as though Tampa will once again feature one of the top defenses in the league, which in itself will keep them competitive. The question is, will they be good enough on offense to become the first NFC South team to repeat as division champs. With the acquisition of Brett Favre no longer an option, Garcia will be counted on again this year to spark the team offensively. Problem is, he seemed to wear down and lose some arm strength as the season progressed last year. At this point, he’s also not happy with his contract situation. Fortunately, he’s not the type of player who carries that type of thing over onto the field with him. He shows up to play week in and week out.

Having said that, however, the Bucs are going to have to fend off the New Orleans Saints, who feature an explosive offense and appear to have improved significantly on the defensive side of the ball with some key moves of their own.

Prediction: 9-7 and second in the NFC South.
