If the groin injury suffered by starting running back LaDainian Tomlinson lingers into the postseason, the San Diego Chargers may be forced to turn to diminutive backup Darren Sproles. But that wouldn't necessarily be the disaster one might think considering the team could potentially be without their All-Pro tailback. Sproles is a very capable back in his own right. The biggest concern with him is how he would hold up to the pounding of being the feature back for an extended period. After all, he is only 5-6 and 180 pounds.
In limited action, he has averaged nearly five-and-a-half yards per carry. He is also a dangerous return man, having averaged more than 11 yards per punt return and 25 yards per kick return. He also has a 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
