What was somewhat surprising was Dallas inability to slow down the Vikings potent offense. Last seasons number one ranked defense allowed over 400 total yards of offense to the Vikings. Randy Moss, who has simply owned Dallas throughout his career, only had four catches for 27 yards. But he did catch two of Duanta Culpeppers five touchdown passes.
On the bright side for Dallas was their offense as the newcomers had good games against the Vikings defense. Vinny Testaverde threw for 355 yards and Keyshawn Johnson caught nine passes for 111 yards. Antonio Bryant also had eight catches for 1120 yards as the Boys rolled up an eye turning 455 total yards of offense, but untimely turnovers and penalties cost them scoring chances.
The running back position became even more clouded with Julius Jones missing the game with an injured rib and Eddie George not making much of an impression. Richie Anderson was supposed to provide leadership and stability, but it was his fumble late in the third quarter that ended a Dallas drive when they were trying to get back into the game. Rashard Lee was the lone bright spot for the Boys running game and hell be getting more of the carries this week versus Cleveland.
The Cowboys defense will need to regroup in a hurry with a resurgent Browns team coming to town for the home opener. Cleveland (1-0) looks to be another tough test for Dallas as they beat the Baltimore Ravens in their first game of the season, 20-3. The Cowboys will need both the offense and the defense to be on top of their games Sunday in order to avoid the disappointing prospect of starting 0-2.
The Browns are lead by newly acquired QB Jeff Garcia and rookie TE Kellen Winslow Jr. on the offense, and LBs Andra Davis and free agent signing Warrick Holdman on defense. Game time is set for 3:15pm central time.
