Strengths
The Falcons have a quality defense, great special teams, and they run the ball very well. And oh yeah.... they have Michael Vick, the most dynamic player in the game. While Vick might not be an elite passer, his ability to make plays with his feet presents a different challenge for defenses. During the season, he ran for 902 yards and came up with some huge plays in crucial situations.

The Falcons also have a nice combination at running back with Warrick Dunn and T.J. Duckett. Dunn is an elusive back with good speed, and Duckett's power-running style complements him nicely.

On defense, Atlanta gets great pressure from their disruptive line. Patrick Kerney and Brady Smith consistently pressure the quarterback from the end positions, and defensive tackles Rod Coleman, Chad Lavalais and Ed Jasper do a good job of collapsing the pocket.

On special teams, Atlanta has big-play potential with Allen Rossum running back kicks, and on the flip side, their punt and kick coverage is among the best in the league. They also have kicker Jay Feeley, who missed just one field goal attempt inside 40 yards this year.

Weaknesses:

Vick is not the most accurate passer in the league, but he isn't helped much by an inconsistent receiving corps. Also, the Falcons have lost three fullbacks to injury this season, so blitz pickup could be a concern. Atlanta cannot afford to lose Vick, so the pass protection must hold up. On defense, depth at cornerback could be a bit of a concern.

Overview:

As Michael Vick goes, so go the Atlanta Falcons. They are a dangerous team when he is making plays with his legs and his arm. And with Dunn and Duckett in the backfield, this team has the ability to run right over its opponents. They also have a disruptive defense that can get after a quarterback and take him out of his game.
Head coach Jim Mora is inexperienced, but he has done a tremendous job with the Falcons this year, and always has his players ready to play. With a weak NFC playoff field, the Falcons have as good a shot as anyone of making it to the big game. Topping whoever represents the AFC, should the Falcons make it that far, might be a task too large for this squad, but as they say, "on any given day"!
