Coming into the 2008 season, the New York Giants, led by head coach Tom Coughlin, were defending NFL champions fresh off a surprising upset of the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. So with every team on their 2008 schedule gunning for them, they faced the daunting challenge of simply trying to get back to the playoffs, which was no guarantee considering the projected strength of the NFC East.
But, despite some key losses in personnel, Coughlin had his troops prepared for the task ahead of them, and they stormed out of the gate winning their first four contests and 11 of their first 12. Continuing to look like the team that ripped surprisingly through the previous season's playoffs, as well as one of the very best teams in the league, the Giants went on to lock up another division title by week 14.
And the recipe for their success was pretty much the same as during their 2007 run; pound the ball on the ground on offense, and bring the pressure on defense.
