Overall: 25th (305.7 ypg)

Key Player: Chad Pennington
He may not put up eye-popping numbers, but quarterback Chad Pennington doesn't make a lot of mistakes either. He is an intelligent signal-caller who takes what the defense gives him, and doesn't take unnecessary chances. He's also great at selling the play-action fakes. With a below-average running game, the Jets are going to have to rely significantly on his arm to get the job done.
Defensive Rankings:
Run: 24th (130.3 ypg)
Pass: 14th (201.4 ypg)
Overall: 20th (331.6 ypg)
Points Per Game: 6th (18.4 ppg)
Key Player: Jonathan Vilma
This kid is a monster and the leader of a unit that just doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Vilma, who seems to always be around the ball, does a great job of slipping blocks and filling the gaps. He also tackles very well in the open field.
Special Teams:
Key Player: Justin Miller

Outlook:
The Jets come into the playoffs on a roll, but they've done it largely against a weak closing schedule. They don't really run the ball well, and they are among the weaker teams at stopping the run, which doesn't bode well for a long stay in the playoffs. Neither does the fact that they must go into Foxboro in the opening round to face the Patriots, who are still smarting from the loss the Jets pinned on them the last time they visited.
The Jets are a very nice story for the 2006 season, but realistically, are still a year or two away from contending for the Super Bowl in a strong AFC. A win in the first round would make this trip to the playoffs a success.
