Minor League Baseball Team to Host Favre Flip Flop Night

By James Alder, About.com

Aug 3 2008
Minor league baseball teams are known to have some rather unorthodox promotions from time to time, and one of the best we've seen this year is being staged Monday night in Augusta, Georgia, home of the Augusta GreenJackets, a single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

What does a minor league baseball promotion have to do with football?

Well, this particular promo takes advantage of the current spotlight on Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers, and is being billed as Brett Favre Flip-Flop night, an obvious poke at Favre's inability to make up his mind regarding retirement. So if you happen to be one of the first 100 fans at the stadium Monday night, you win a brand new pair of flip flops. And if you show up wearing a Favre jersey, you'll get a free seat upgrade. And to top it off, anyone wearing a cheesehead will receive a free bratwurst. How can you beat that?

The GreenJackets also plan on retiring Favre's jersey number... only to reinstate it the next day.

We (and the GreenJackets) make light of this whole situation, but in all seriousness, this could really open the door for Favre to a post-football career endorsing products like flip flops. And waffles irons.
