The Green Bay Packers will always be playoff contenders as long as Brett Favre is slinging the pigskin, but this year the green and gold should be among the league's elite as long as their future Hall-of-Famer stays healthy. Taking a risk on a talented receiver and a couple of additions on defensive side of the ball may put the Pack back on top. Here are the top additions to their roster!
1. Joe Johnson DE, Saints
This two-time Pro Bowler gives the Packers a dominating defensive end that can play every down. Johnson plays the run as well as the pass, and is also a leader in the locker room. Watch for him to have an immediate impact on Green Bay's defense.
2. Terry Glenn WR, Patriots
The Packers took a chance on the talented bad boy from New England, and if he can stay on the field and out of trouble, he'll give Favre his best receiver in years. If Glenn becomes a problem in the clubhouse, Green Bay could release him without suffering a big salary cap hit.
3. Hardy Nickerson LB, Jaguars
The release of Bernardo Harris left a hole in the middle of the linebacking crew, but Nickerson should fill the slot nicely. In fact, he should be an upgrade if he plays like he did last year. Age could be a concern, but he showed no sign of slowing while in Jacksonville.
4. Javon Walker WR, Florida State
Receivers usually have a tough time establishing themselves in their rookie year (see Robert Ferguson), but most don't have Favre throwing the ball to them. Walker is an excellent athlete with good size (6-2, 210) and speed (4.4), but he did have problems holding onto the ball at Florida State. If he overcomes this shortcoming, he could become a star for the Packers in the next couple years.
5. Marques Anderson S, UCLA
Anderson should battle for a back-up job behind Darren Sharper and LeRoy Butler, and may see some playing time in nickel and dime situations. He's is a devastating hitter that will intimidate receivers coming across the field. He also adds quality depth to the secondary.
