Strengths:

The Rams may no longer be "the greatest show on turf" as they were billed early in the decade, but their offense can still be very potent when quarterback Mark Bulger is on his game. And he's been on a bit of a hot streak of late, completing nearly 75% of his passes for 675 yards over the last two games of the regular season. And with veteran receivers Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce running down passes, St. Louis can still strike quickly and often.
Veteran running back Marshall Faulk has seen his touches decline since the beginning of the season thanks largely to a lingering knee injury, and the Rams have dropped in production in the ground game. But a lot of that can be attributed to head coach Mike Martz, who often abandons any attempt to establish the run far too early. Second-year tailback Steven Jackson has shown flashes of ability, but he didn't get the chance to carry the ball more than 13 times in a single game until week 13.

Weakness:

When it comes to run defense, the Rams are just about as bad as there is. They surrender 136 yards per game on the ground, and they are dead last in the league in takeaways (14) and turnover differential (-21). That's not a good combination if you want the ball in the hands of your high-powered offense.
There are also concerns along the offensive line where it appears rookie Larry Turner will be forced into duty for the injured Tom Nutten. Bulger has a tendency to get rattled and make bad decisions when he isn't getting good pass protection, so this is an area to keep an eye on.

Overview:

The Rams have the firepower that no one wants to face in the post-season, but like many of the teams in the NFC playoff field, they just don't have it on the defensive side of the ball. The overall weakness of the conference gives the Rams a glimmer of hope since someone has to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XXXIX, but their run defense is not going to make the journey easy.
