After finishing in last place in the AFC North in 2007 with a 5-11 record, few gave the Baltimore Ravens a legitimate shot at competing for the division title in 2008, especially since they were breaking in a rookie at quarterback. But that rookie outperformed expectations and the defense returned to dominance. And while the team came up a game short to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the division, they did reverse their record to 11-5 and landed a wild-card berth in the playoffs.
Make no mistake about it. Even as a wild card that is going to have to win some games on the road, this team is dangerous. They can run the ball (fourth in the league) and they can stop the run (third in the league). And they are equally as tough against the pass (second in the league).
Their passing game may not be much to write home about, but QB Joe Flacco is getting more comfortable every week, and has gradually improved as the season has progressed.
So it would be unwise to write this team off too early!
