New Orleans Saints

An Illustrated Profile of the 2010 New Orleans Saints

From , former About.com Guide

After decades of suffering, the New Orleans Saints finally landed their first NFL championship last season, knocking off the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17, in Super Bowl XLIV. Now, for the first time during their existence, the are charged with defending a title.

Of course, they still have plenty of firepower. What helped put them over the top in 2009, however, is they now have a defense that borders on respectability to go along with one of the best offenses in the league. No longer do the Saints have to score like a pinball machine. Instead it's a luxury knowing they can.

What makes the Saints so hard to stop is the balance they present on offense. Not only can they air it out by throwing the ball 50 times per game if they need to. They can also move it on the ground behind a running game that is among the best in the league. And they've proved they can not only blow their opponents out, but also dig themselves out of a hole should they be presented with that situation.
