Remember...when the Steelers had to play their third-string running-back...and it was Duce Staley? Again, Duce Staley is Pittsburgh's third option at running back. The word "depth" comes to mind. As does "loaded." As well as the words, "Bettis and Parker will be healthy and well rested for the play-offs."
When Willie Parker twisted his ankle in the third quarter, Duce Staley saw his first action since the AFC Championship game. Duce quickly shook of the dust, and responded with 15 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown...all in a little over a quarter of play.
In other words, come January, the Steelers will have the luxury of having one, if not all, of their three quality running backs 100% healthy and ready to (literally) run over opposing defenses.
Remember...when the Steelers had to play four straight weeks against teams with nothing to lose? Two weeks ago, Pittsburgh got Baltimore's best effort. Then, Green Bay played the best game they have played all year long (despite losing). And, I expect similar efforts from Cleveland next week and Baltimore the week after. As I said last week, for the Ravens and the Browns, these games are their Super Bowl...their chance to play the roll of spoiler...yadda-yadda-yadda.
Alas, unless the Steelers want these games to be their Super Bowl, as well, they had better make some major improvements...especially on defense. Otherwise, Pittsburgh will have more in common with Cleveland and Baltimore than merely playing in the North division.
