To be successful in 2008, the Tennessee Titans knew they would have to be effective on the ground, which is why they drafted East Carolina running back Chris Johnson in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Most probably didn't realize how good, or explosive, he would be in his first season in the league, however.
Johnson made an immediate impact with the club, leading the team in rushing in all but one contest despite having veteran LenDale White on the roster to share carries with. He also proved to be effective as a receiver out of the backfield. So the Titans focused on Johnson, a quick, shifty back, as their primary ball carrier, while White, who provided a more bruising style, was turned to as a change of pace.
