The Minnesota Vikings were a popular pick to win the NFC North and perhaps go all the way to the Super Bowl. The one main weakness was perceived to be at the most important position on the roster. Quarterback Tavaris Jackson's ability to lead this team at this point of his career fell under heavy scrutiny throughout the preseason.
And there were some rocky roads along the way, and changes at the quarterback position have evolved in an interesting manner along the way. The team's ability to even make it to the postseason, however, was questioned on more than one occasion.
But make it to the playoffs they did, as they wrapped up an NFC North championship with a win over the New York Giants during week 17 of the regular season. Much of the credit for that championship, of course, goes to a defense that was the best in the league against the run and a potent rushing attack led by the league's leading ground gainer.
