The Minnesota Vikings came within an eyelash of landing in the Super Bowl last season, losing in overtime to the eventual champion New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game. And it appears they have all the pieces in place to make another serious run assuming quarterback Brett Favre returns for another season.
At this point, that seems to be a fairly safe assumption.
Which is good for Minnesota, because the Vikings fortunes in 2010 will rely a lot on Favre's play, which for the most part was stellar last year. However it may be more important they jump start a running game that stalled somewhat down the stretch in 2009. The Vikings also appeared to be a bit vulnerable outdoors late in the season and the return of their potent running game would help alleviate that shortcoming.
Of course, if Favre decides to hang it up, all bets are off for this team and their championship aspirations will be thrown into a tailspin.
