Brooks Rips Benson

Wednesday December 14, 2005
It appears New Orleans Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks is doing everything he can to grease the skids out of New Orleans or San Antonio... or wherever it is the team might be playing next year. During an interview aired on the NFL Today pregame show on CBS Sunday, Brooks ripped into owner Tom Benson for the way he has handled the situation created by Hurricane Katrina.

Brooks isn't happy that the vagabond Saints are continuously displaced by previous commitments at the Alamodome in San Antonio, and feels the league and Benson could have done much more to accommodate the players and coaches.

"If (Benson) sells the team, he walks away with 600 million (dollars)," Brooks said. "I don't think a couple million would hurt to make his team feel very comfortable every week. So I'm more than sure he could have done a lot more. I'm very sure he could have done a lot more. And for those who don't understand, come down here to San Antonio and see what our conditions are like. It's just bad."

It still remains a mystery why the Saints haven't simply returned to their brand new training facility in in Metairie, La., which I am told has nothing wrong with it. Meanwhile, they are forced to make due with places like the San Antonio Water Works building as their headquarters, a high school baseball field for practices, and a weight room that consists of nothing more than a tent.

There's a good chance Brooks would have found himself wearing a different uniform in 2006, but his latest comments almost assure it... especially as the club moves closer and closer to the prime draft pick that could allow them to select USC signal caller Matt Leinart.
