Former Co-MVP McNair Traded

Thursday June 8, 2006
Life in an already-tough AFC North just got a little tougher. Pending a physical evaluation, it appears the Tennessee Titans have finally agreed to ship veteran quarterback Steve McNair to the Baltimore Ravens, making the club a viable competitor in the division.

According to Profootballtalk.com, who broke the story of McNair's trade Wednesday afternoon, the Titans will receive a fourth-round draft pick in 2007 as compensation.

The Ravens take on a completely different look offensively with McNair in the fold. Reuniting with wide receiver Derrick Mason provides some familiarity. And '05 first rounder Mark Clayton, along with tight end Todd Heap, offer some options in the passing game. Assuming the offensive line holds up and RB Jamal Lewis bounces back, the Ravens should offer up a very balanced attack.

If Baltimore's defense holds form, the Ravens will be a team to keep an eye on.

Fantasy Impact: This move has a huge impact for the fantasy football world. First of all, QB Kyle Boller falls off the face of the map as far as fantasy rankings go. Both Mason and Heap should see healthy upgrades at their respective positions now that they have a proven QB tossing the ball. Clayton deserves a slight boost as well, but should be nothing more than a backup at best on your roster.

With McNair out of town, Billy Volek should see his stock leap. The chances of Vince Young seeing the field are greater now as well, so he should climb slightly. On the flip side, the receivers --Drew Bennett, David Givens-- should see a slip in value without an experienced signal-caller getting them the ball.
