Vick Lawyer Needs Reality Check
Tuesday November 20, 2007
Deposed Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick, according to ESPN, turned himself in Monday to U.S. Marshalls to begin serving what is expected to be at least a one-year stay in the Big House for his involvement in an illegal dogfighting ring. Vick is not schedule to be sentenced for another three weeks, but apparently he is hoping his early appearance behind bars will help him get back into the NFL sooner and perhaps persuade Judge Henry E. Hudson to lighten the sentence he is about to impose. It seems, however, based on a quote in the ESPN article, that Vick's lawyer needs a bit of reality check regarding Vick's behavior leading up to this point.
"From the beginning, Mr. Vick has accepted responsibility for his actions, and his self-surrender further demonstrates that acceptance," attorney Billy Martin said in a statement. "Michael wants to again apologize to everyone who has been hurt in this matter, and he thanks all of the people who have offered him and his family prayers and support during this time."How quickly Mr. Martin seems to forget that when this story first broke, Vick accepted absolutely no responsibility, blaming friends and family for the mess, and even denied he ever spent time at the property where the torturous acts occurred. It wasn't until he was backed into a corner by his co-defendants turning on him that he finally admitted any involvement at all.
I don't know if Martin's memory is bad or if he simply thinks the public has forgotten already the circumstances leading to Vick's conviction. Either way, the picture he paints is far from what really happened.

Get a life dude… the guy has paid enough all ready to this point.
If only white america including myself would take the same emotions and anger that’s showed against Vick and impeach the president for being dishonest and geting us into a war for money.
I lost a love one in Iraq and no one seems to give a f*** about that!!! Only Vick, OJ and Bonds dominate the news.
People or dogs… We are all brain washed. What go’s around comes around… I just hope I’m all ready gone when it comes.
I’m sorry for your loss, Thomas, but this is a football website, so it’s hard to justify working in an anti-war story. As far as Vick, he’s spent one night in jail. He hasn’t even come close to paying his debt to society.
As much as I hate to agree with you Thomas I think the media as gone overkill on the guy. What he did was wrong… but where are our priorities in this country.
So many troops are dying in a war full of lies while most of us turn a blind eye and concentrate on athletes like Vick.
The media wants us to forget about the things that really affects us in this country and demonize celebrities so that we forget what really matters.
If anything president Bush should get the same attention that Vick got when the story broke, but no… what Vick did is so more disgusting. Right?
Try a google search online of all the innocent kids who have been killed by our bullets and bombs, courtesy of president Bush and company.
Sorry for your lost Thomas.
I don’t think vick going to jail has anything to do with the game of football, so I disagree the whole an-ti war comment. You want to talk football lets talk about the cowboys or even the season the pats are having to this point. Last time I checked Vick hasn’t played a game all season… so try agian my friend.
Just the point I was tyring to make… turn a blind eye and say anthing not to talk about what really matters!!!
You people are crazy. The war and bush get way more press than Vick. Stop trying to twist the truth. Go to googlenews and type – war iraq, and see that there are 85,000 results in the last week. type vick and there are 5,000. Now I will give you that there shouldn’t be that many storis about Vick, but don’t act like you turn on the news for one day don’t see plenty of news about bush and the war. It is on every day through almost every news outlet. Like someone said – this is a football site and it is news to the sport to know that this guy went into jail to get out earlier to get on the field.
Again, guys… this is a football site. Politics have no place here, therefore, you are not going to get any articles bashing GW or the war. And since Vick is an NFL superstar, this news is absolutely related to football.
in my opinion he get whatever’s coming to him. its about time somebody has made these “so called” atheletes take responsibility for their actions. i wonder what makes them think that they are invincible? ok so you can throw a ball far or you can shoot a ball from half court…you are still responsible for your actions and if you break the law by any means…you’re deemed responsible law wise for that too. kids look up to most of them and even though they may not want to be role models…they are. when you put yourself in the limelight, that door opens automatic. as far as Vick goes, im a dog lover, so he’s already out in my book. some people may welcome him back to the game, but i wont. what he done was cruel and inhumane and totally unnecessary. that goes for whoever did it with him. i hope that they all get a nice healthy sentence. maybe they’ll learn to respect living creatures whether they have 4 legs or 2.
Well look it is like this just because you plead guilty doesn’t mean that you are. this is America where one is tried in the court of public opinion. I don’t know what happened there but I do know one thing the man took care of his so called co defendants for years, and how long did it take for them to turn on him. I just find it disturbing that animal seem to get better treatment under the law than humans these days.I know how unfair the court system can be from personal experience.
human or animal, nothing or nobody deserves to be mistreated. i find it very hard to believe that Michael Vick owned that house and didnt know what was going on in it. secondly, he pleaded guilty because he is. he also agreed to help bring the other ppl involved up on charges by telling what he knew. thats not being guilty in public opinion…thats an admission of guilt from him.
If you want to complain about the war, go somewhere else. Vick is a piece of crap and he deserves everything he is getting. He is lucky because he is still alive because nobody tried to strangle, hang or electrocute him. Football is a great sport for great athletes. There is no room for slime like Vick.
Your crazy.
To everyone making excuses by comparing dogfighting the Iraq war, deer hunting, abortion, can you think out of the box for a change? Why are you making excuses to justify Vick’s hideous brutality? Your attempts at diverting attention away from his crimes are so transparant & lame it makes me want to throw up.
Let me explain the Iraq war is VOLUNTARY as are many other occurences that we as humans can choose whether or not to participate. We have a voice to fight back with against abuse. Animals are defensless, they can’t talk back and they can’t fight back.
With our help animals can be saved from a life of fear misery & pain. It’s about time scumbag cowards like Vick are punished harshly & the law takes the crime of dogfighting seriously. I hope Vick’s case sets a precedent for every sadistic owners or member of a dogfight ring..
IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT ARE WOULD YOU LIKE ANIMAL ABUSE TO CONTINUE & THE CRIMINALS TO GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST??
BESIDES, this is a forum in sports and the subjuct is Michael Vick & dogfighting, not the Iraq War, get it. Did it occur to you geniuses that we can loathe Sick Vick’s crime & also not like the Iraq war, deer hunting, abortion bla bla?
You Vick followers are such weak minded gutless little morons. If he murdered your grandma you’d still find excuses.
Well said Gina. Thank You.
First of all, lighten up about George Bush. He didn’t lie about anything to get us into the war. If he had, you can be sure the liberal democrats would have had him crucified for it by now.
Regarding the topic we should be talking about on this site, football, what does the writer of this article expect Vick’s lawyer to say? “Vick has been a horrible guy and deserves to be punished as much as possible?” It is the attorney’s job to try and paint nice of picture as he can regarding Michael Vick. Is it all true? Of course not, but I blame the writer of this article more than I do the attorney. At least the attorney is trying to do his job. The writer is too lazy to find something worthwhile to write about. Very typical of the press.
Obviously, Buck, Vick’s lawyer is pulling a PR job, trying to get the public to forget how Vick denied any and all responsibility for his actions until it became clear he was backed into a corner and had no other choice. I think it is a very worthwhile topic to discuss since the facts in this case are so clearly being twisted. Vick is being made out to be this upstanding citizen who has been willing from the start to accept resposibility for his actions, and that is clearly a fabrication. Doesn’t someone need to call his lawyer out for “conveniently” forgetting the truth?
Um Buck, you do know that you DO NOT have to read this…don’t you? I mean you’re acting like someone took your hand and typed in this web addy and made you click on this particular one. This has relevance, just like the guy said, Vicks lawyer obviously think we’ve forgotten how he lied to everybody, including his team and coach about having any dealings with the situation. I personally dont commend him on coming forward. I watched the news conference he had and basically said BLAH…because it was only when his buddies said they would tell everything that he decided “oh sh*t, they got me” that he chose to say something. He gets nothing for that. His lawyer would have benefited better by saying something alittle different, like my client made a bad mistake in judgement in the beginning. He has asked for forgiveness from everyone affected an blah blah blah…instead of the crap he did say. And lastly, if you want to praise General Bush…do it elsewhere…this is for FOOTBALL!
Michael Vick must reform.I believe in it.
