Favre to Vikings a Done Deal?
Well, it seems Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings is all but inevitable now. According to a WCCO source, the former league MVP and the Vikings have come to a contractual agreement, "with heavy incentives", and the Vikings equipment manager has already ordered number 4 purple jerseys with Favre's name on it. If true, this confirms a report by Profootballtalk.com over the weekend.
Per the report, Favre will be at training camp when it opens in late July.
Though he is a better option at this point than anyone currently on their roster, I'm not convinced Favre is the right piece to complete the Vikings' championship puzzle. Minnesota relies on a strong defense and potent running game to get the job done, and it seems a game manager-type quarterback would fit better with what they are trying to do than a career gunslinger like Favre. There really isn't a better option on the market, however.
Also, as I mentioned back in early May when the rumors began circulating of a second unretirement, I'm not sure Favre has enough left in the tank to take even a highly-talented team like the Vikings all the way. Despite his iron-man streak of starts, he has shown signs of breaking down. Signing him might be worth the gamble for Minnesota since their next-best option at this point is Sage Rosenfels, but will Favre fade like he did last year?
Will his 39-year-old body even make it to the end of the 2009 season?

This is all just a big circus event! I wish the guy would retire before he ruins his legacy. If he flops this year, the sad thing is that people will forget what he did and remember this debacle forever. Sorry to say Brett, I’m a packer fan first, so I hope you set a new career high in interceptions this year.
i think you may be wrong on this one. these guys are thinking this one through and have been playing the media like a fiddle and still are. there is gonna be a plan. favre will be a game manager. all the pieces are there for that to happen and wait til you see how low the interceptions will be this year. i predict 37 tds to 7 ints. this is going to be good.
Fav-re will be better than T-Joke
First off as a fan of football I must say I prefer the game to be settled on the field instead of this reality tv drama that Favre tends to create for the last several years running. Now the Vikings are a quarterback away from a legitimate run to the title, that being said Farve fills that void, however he is not a qb that can endure the regular season as well as the off season. It would better suit the Vikings to have him coach one of their young quarter backs for the first part of the season then begin to interject Favre starting at week 8 only part time to bring him to speed giving him full reigns come week 12 (assuming their record is good enough otherwise before) then let him guide you through the playoffs and win the Lombardi trophy again. He is not in a place to lead a team for a season and still have enough to win it all. Great move for the Vikings if they understand what they have and how to utilize it.
gannon was 38 when he got his ring brett will do great i will enjoy watching him lead the team to the super bowl victory
Vikings are looking Golden for the 09 season!
Elway tore the same tendon Favre did at 38, and then he led the Broncos to win the Super Bowl and was Super Bowl MVP. Favre has Berrian, Harvin, Shiancoe, and Rice as receivers. Jeez, Mr. Magoo sees better than people who don’t get this: Eight in the box to stop Peterson is now fatal. Jared Allen will rip your head off once you fall behind and have to pass.
Unbelievable!!! So much for me being a Viking fan anymore! I refuse to cheer for Brett! The Vikings are making a terrible mistake getting into this drama. The NFL is turning into a soap opera, versus plain old athletics
Kristy- why don’t you just become a Packer fan this year. I prefer to watch this “drama” and look forward to the Packer vs Viking games. Come on, it’s only entertainment. Lighten up a little, ehh!
Packers/Favre fan
Man I would love to see Favre in a Jersey on any football team in the NFL. The Vikings are a perfect fit because he won’t have to toss the rock but 15 to 20 times a game.. with the occasional 4 quarter come from behind 30 toss game. Please sign Favre! BBs stock would jump threw the roof! And most folks would pass him up so we could get him cheap!
