Tommie Harris

By James Alder, About.com

Position: Defensive Tackle

School: Oklahoma

Status: Junior

Height: 6-3
Weight: 290
40-Yard Dash: 4.70
Positives: Tommie Harris is a quick and powerful defensive lineman. He gets off the ball as quick as any tackle in the country, and he has the ability to slip blocks. He is very athletic for his size and has a knack for getting off blocks and getting penetration into the backfield.
He has very good pass rushing skills, yet he holds up well against the run. He has started since he was a true freshman at Oklahoma, so he has tons of experience for an underclassmen. He also has good closing speed for a big man.
Negatives: The only real knock on Harris has been his size. He weighs close to 290 now, which isn't bad for a one-gap tackle, and with his frame, he could easily put on another 10 pounds. He could also be moved to defensive end in the NFL, especially in a 3-4 defense.
Projection: Since he doesn't have the size you look for in a nose tackle, Harris will most likely be more of a one-gap tackle in the NFL. He is an explosive player and should be very successful at the next level.

Tommy Harris should be a top-10 pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
