Draft and Free Agent Notes
Viewer Mock Drafts
1. (65) Cincinnati Bengals - Cory Redding, DE Texas
Redding causes a lot of havoc on the field, but is inconsistent. Came on strong in the second half of the 2002 season.
2. (66) Detroit Lions - LaMarcus McDonald, OLB TCU
Since they lost out on restricted free agent Na'il Diggs, I look for the Lions to address strong side linebacker on the first day of the draft.
3. (67) Houston Texans - Mike Nattiel, OLB Florida
Nattiel is an athletic linebacker and a good open-field tackler, but a bit undersized. Has decent coverage skills and is a good blitzer, which is exactly what the Texans are looking for in a linebacker.
4. (68) Chicago Bears - Ken Hamlin, S Arkansas
Ken Hamlin is a hard-hitting safety with decent speed, who always seems to be around the ball. He doesn't have great size, but is very physical and can cover the run from sideline to sideline.
5. (69) Dallas Cowboys - Ben Johnson, OT Wisconsin
A dominating run-blocker. Played left tackle at Wisconsin, but will probably play on the right side in the NFL.
6. (70) Arizona Cardinals - Dennis Weathersby, CB Oregon State
Weathersby was sure to go no later than early in the second round before being shot earlier this week, and this, combined with previous questions about his attitude, could cause him to fall.
7. (71) Minnesota Vikings - Alonzo Jackson, DE Florida State
The Vikings had one of the league's worst pass rushes in 2002.
8. (72) Jacksonville Jaguars - Brandon Lloyd, WR Illinois
Bobby Shaw, Patrick Johnson and Kevin Lockett all left as free agents. The Jags need to fill one of these holes on the first day.
