Ernie Sims is a tremendous athlete with great speed and coverage skills for a linebacker. He may be the best coverage linebacker in the 2006 draft, and reminds in some ways of former FSU linebacker Derrick Brooks. He's also very strong for his size and may excel at the next level because of this. He would be a very good fit for a cover 2 system, such as in Tampa Bay or Indianapolis.
Sims lacks size and struggles at times to fight off blocks. He tends to be a little overaggressive when attacking the run and may get caught out of position due to this. Ernie also had some trouble with injuries throughout his career in high school and in college, including a history of concussions.
Sims was a standout his entire career at Florida State and should translate that to success in the NFL. He may need to be in the right system such as a cover 2 system to make a true impact however at the next level. He reminds me of Derrick Brooks in the way that he lacks ideal size however he has all the other tools to be very successful in the NFL. I see him as a late 1st rounder to mid second round pick. He will make for an excellent player if put in the correct system.
