Carolina Panthers 2008 NFL Draft

Draft Needs of the Carolina Panthers

From Andrew Wynne and James Alder, for About.com

Mar 11 2008

Free Safety — A young ball-hawking, play-making free safety as an upgrade over Deke Cooper is needed to start immediately.

Quarterback — Unless the team is sold on Matt Moore as the future successor to Jake Delhomme, a new quarterback must be drafted. Unless, of course, Vinny Testaverde plans to play into his golden years.

Defensive Tackle — A young defensive tackle to take the place of the traded Kris Jenkins needs to be drafted.

Wide Receiver — Mushin Muhammad was brought back into the fold to take some of the pressure off of Steve Smith. However, a future young wide receiver still needs to be groomed to start opposite Steve Smith.

Defensive End — The steep decline in the career of 32-year-old Mike Rucker has negatively impacted the performance of Julius Peppers. Unless Tyler Brayton or Charles Johnson can step in and perform well, another young defensive end needs to be acquired.

Offensive Tackle — A fourth offensive tackle needs to be drafted behind Wharton, Gross, and Omiyale.

Return Specialist — A game-breaker is needed to return kicks.
