Philadelphia Eagles Playoff Profile

By James Alder, About.com

The Stats:

Regular Season Record: 10-6
Last Six Games: 5-1

All-Time Playoff Record: 17-17
Eagles' Previous Playoff Results

The Team:

Team Colors: Midnight Green, Black, White, and Silver
Head Coach: Andy Reid
Owner: Jeffrey Lurie
Mascot: Swoop
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Offensive Rankings:

Run: 11th (124.0 ypg)
Pass: 3rd (257.4 ypg)
Overall: 2nd (381.4 ypg)
Points Per Game: 6th (24.9 ppg)
Key Player: Jeff Garcia

The Eagles were written off when Donovan McNabb was lost for the season, but Jeff Garcia has stepped in nicely, showing he can still playin the right system with the right talent around him. He has posted a 95.8 passer rating since taking over, and has thrown 10 TD passes to just two interceptions. If Garcia continues to play the way he did during the regular season, there's no reason the Eagles can't challenge in a weak NFC.

Defensive Rankings:

Run: 26th (136.4 ypg)
Pass: 9th (191.7 ypg)
Overall: 15th (328.1 ypg)
Points Per Game: 15th (20.5 ppg)
Key Player: Jeremiah Trotter

If the Eagles have a weakness, it's their run defense, which has been inconsistent at best. At middle linebacker, Trotter is already the team's best run-stopper, but he's got to take his game to another level. Of course, stopping the run doesn't fall entirely on Trotter, but without his strong presence in the middle, this defense would really struggle.

Special Teams:

Key Player: Reno Mahe/Brian Westbrook

Mahe will probably get the bulk of the work as the Eagles return man, but Westbrook may get some spot duty in key situations.

Turnovers:

Give Aways: 23rd (24)
Take Aways: 13th (29)

Outlook:

The Eagles enter the playoffs as the hottest team in the NFC, and have been surprisingly efficient with Jeff Garcia at quarterback. If he continues to protect the ball and make plays within the Eagles West Coast offense, this team could be very dangerous. They seem to be peaking at just the right time.

The key, however, is how well their defense holds up against the more potent rushing attacks. If they can limit guys the caliber of Tiki Barber and Deuce McAllister, they should win. If they allow a team to rack up 150+ yards on the ground against them, they'll probably get run out of the playoffs.
