Seattle Seahawks Playoff Profile

By James Alder, About.com

The Stats:

Regular Season Record: 9-7
Last Six Games: 3-3 [

All-Time Playoff Record: 6-9
Seahawks' Previous Playoff Results

The Team:

Team Colors: Pacific Blue, Navy Blue, Neon Green, White
Head Coach: Mike Holmgren
Owner: Paul Allen
Mascot: Blitz, and Taima the augur hawk
Location: Seattle, Washington

Offensive Rankings:

Run: 14th (120.2 ypg)
Pass: 20th (190.9 ypg)
Overall: 19th (311.1 ypg)
Points Per Game: 14th (20.9 ppg)
Key Player: Shaun Alexander

The Seahawks offense has struggled to find any sort of rhythm since both Alexander and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck returned from lengthy injuries. Alexander can take a lot of pressure off Hasselbeck if he gets back on top of his game. Balance on offense is what makes the Seahawks dangerous, and the best way to get that back is to get back to the basics and get the running game going.

Defensive Rankings:

Run: 22nd (126.8 ypg)
Pass: 16th (203.5 ypg)
Overall: 19th (330.3 ypg)
Points Per Game: 19th (21.3 ppg)
Key Players: The Entire Secondary

With starting cornerbacks Kelly Herndon and Marcus Trufant down with injuries, and veteran Jimmy Williams banged up, everyone else in the secondary is going to have to take it up a notch. Rookie Kelly Jennings and youngster Rich Gardner will be counted on to fill much larger roles, and you can bet opposing defenses are going to try to take advantage of them.

Turnovers:

Give Aways: 6th (34)
Take Aways: 21st (26)

Outlook:

The Seahawks have stumbled into the playoffs, having won just one of their last four games. But there is good news. There are still a lot of the same parts in place from last year's team that went to Super Bowl XL last January, and Mike Holmgren is a crafty, experienced head coach. If someone can find the switch to turn the intensity back on, this team could be dangerous in a weak NFC field. But if they continue with the lethargic efforts that barely put them over .500, it will be a short postseason for the Seahawks.
