Readers Respond: Should Michael Vick Be Allowed Back Into the NFL?

Responses: 53

By James Alder, About.com

After being convicted of committing heinous crimes against innocent animals, should Michael Vick be allowed back in the NFL? Has he forfeited his right to continue a lucrative career or has he paid his debt to society? Does he deserve a second chance? Is his career probably over anyway because of his age and time away from the game? And will any NFL team be willing to take on the public relations headache that would come with placing Vick on the roster?

On a related note, should the NFL suspend Vick for year in addition to the time he has missed or should his incarceration count as his suspension? State Your Case

ya

ya cuz he already served time and you cant judge him by that.He was having fun and yes it was wrong but it is not like he didnt get punished by the law.

aboslutly NOT

michael vick laughed and bet money while defenseless dogs were dying and killing each other for the sake of a few dollars. He drowned and electrocuted dogs that didn't fight well. I thought he was a human being but a human being would not do that and be able to sleep peacefully at night

NFL No!

Even if he is sorry about what he did (he may be, he may not be)I don't think they should let him back in. A life is still a life and he didn't have to gamble. He had plenty of money, and what he did was just cruel. Sure, he can have a second chance at life or what he wants to do, but the NFL no. These are people who we look up to and although we all make mistakes, not everything can be fixed with "I'm sorry, and I've learned my lesson." He paid only part of what all those animals paid. A life is a life no matter what, and those dogs felt great pain. Plus it's not worth it for the NFL to take him back. Too much negative publicity around him and his age is not going down.

GET OVER IT!!!

hey, for all you people who say he doesn't deserve a second chance, you can get over it coz honestly he didn't kill anyone, but i don't agree with what he did.. but i think he deserves another chance! -liluntey

You people are crazy?

I in no way agree with what Vick did. However most of you act as if he killed a human being or raped your mothers. Of course he deserves a chance to be a better person. Look at your own lives. Are you all perfect, do you all have no secrets you have never made a stupid decision??? You are the ones that maybe need to be confined. You sound like a bunch of snobs. Welcome to the real world where people make mistakes and people screw up. Also, where people can overcome previous failures and become somebody. Who are you people to judge him? I dont even like him as a football player but i value the human being more than i value the K-9. Or any other animal for that matter. I have dogs and love them to death but they are not more valuable than the human life God gave us. I feel sorry for most of that feel so closed in a sheltered to the point that he should just stop living and trying to provide for his family because he fought dogs. You are far worse off than he will ever be.

im an idiot

I am an idiot for saying what I said I now know that I am truly an idiot

Yes he should

Yes, in my thoughts Vick's should be allowed back in the NFL. Because to me the whole animal ordeal is completely irrelevant to playing a game of football. I believe that he should only be punished according to his deeds in the game he is playing, sort of speak. But when a man commits a crime that has nothing to do with what his job is, then let the courts deal with it. Don't make it your business. Besides he has payed his time for the crime that he committed, what's the use of "holding a grudge"?

why

i dont think he should be able to go back to the nfl.he needs to go back to jail.

oregon

should mass murderers and serial killers have a second chance? my answer to vick is no f-ng way
—Guest j.saita

why?

Step down Vick, you just got caught that's the only reason your sorry. Professional football or not you still messed up. You don't deserve a 2nd chance at all. People are out there hungry and no place to live and your making over 1million for playing,(football). Where's the justice!!! People say he derserves a 2nd chance, what about the dogs that were mangled from dogfighting and he just watched. I think Vick should go overseas and fight the war. (that's were violent people should go).

Vick Shouldn't Be Given a 2nd Chance

I don't know why any team would want to deal with this public relations nightmare. He won't get any support from the general public, and it's not like he's returning at the peak of his game. I know I'd never root for a team that offered this man money.

the NFL is a bunch of Greedflys

There have got to be hundreds of young quarterbacks that have enough moral sense not to pick on animals for gods sake. But who cares about decency when there is money to be made. The NFL has no standard for anything.

He's bad for business

I think the man paid the price for his crime and should not be denied the legal means to make a living. However as a team owner do you risk a possible PR nightmare? Professional football is a business and everyone involved is there to make money. Vick just might have enough skills left to win a couple of games but is he worth the gamble?

Consequences of hiring MV

This issue seems to be parted right down the middle with each side enthusiastically and adamantly stating their point of view. Part of my argument is that because of his marketability he is being embraced by some (people) that think he will lead them to success and or financial reward, some (people) might call that short sighted greed with out consideration for the possible disastrous consequences for their organization. I am not sure who is right anymore but I remain convinced that he will not be able to deliver the goods and the price will be a PR catastrophe.

No second chance

NFL players are watched and admired by millions of people. He knew right from wrong, it was his choice to do wrong. Many animals ( dogs, cats etc. ) are house hold pets or trained to be watch dogs, see & eye, or service dogs. they are not for training to kill for our amusement. Yes everyone makes mistakes, but I don't want my son watching a football player on T.V. that abuses animals.
